photo{s} a day, sixteen: oh the irony.
Remember that heat wave I mentioned a few posts back. Yeah. It's been hot. And we have no AC. And I have a husband that just got out of the hospital who needs to be comfortable.
{For the back story, we moved into this house December 2011. We basically had to completely gut the house and renovate everything. Upon moving in, we quickly realized the heat did not work. But ya know - it's not like we get super cold winters in San Diego - at least nothing that an electric blanket can't handle. Spring is beautiful and the beginning of summer is easy peasy - in fact, they call it "May Grey" and "June Gloom" because it's so overcast in the mornings and the cloud cover doesn't burn off til the afternoon. We don't get our real summer til July, August, September. Baby came and well, we never got around to getting the AC fixed. By the time summer gets unbearable, we know the weather change is right around the corner. We can handle a few hot days, right?! Then summer turned to fall, fall to winter, winter to spring and back to summer. And here we are. Oh, and did I mention we are cheap? And apparently we are procrastinators too.}
So, Dusty had his whole appendix rupturing chaos during this crazy heat wave. Fixing the AC became an issue that needed to be dealt with - stat. To me, this was a GREAT reason to finally get this done. {I may or may not have been hinting at this idea for quite some time now..} So, I did it. I made the call. The AC guy came today and very quickly upon inspection asked me, "how long has it looked like this?" - referring to the unit in the upstairs hallway. "Umm, I don't know. I've never looked at it. I'm guessing the whole year and a half we've lived here?" He looked at me like I WAS NUTS.
The baby started crying from downstairs {I had left him in his high chair with the big boys eating lunch while I showed the AC guy to the upstairs}, so I dismissed myself from the uncomfortableness that was said conversation with the AC guy. He walked downstairs about 2 minutes later.
"Ma'am? You're AC has never NOT worked."
"Umm, come again?"
"Yeah, the door was off the front. There's a little black switch. If the door is open, it switches off. You cannot run the AC with the cover not on. The air is working."
{completely DUMBfounded} "So, you're telling me that it was NEVER broken? It has worked the entire year and a half we have lived here?"
"That's what I'm telling you. That'll be fifty bucks."
So, if you're tracking with me, I paid a man $50 to close the door to my air conditioner to turn it on.
{Let me give you a moment to process this...."}
I paid a man $50 to close the door to my air conditioner. We have lived in a house with a "broken" {not broken} air conditioner for 20 months.
Yeah. I think we all need a moment of silence.
Btw - within 5 minutes of the air conditioning being on, my children and I were both cold in our house, with it not being winter. There's a first time for everything.
