photo{s} a day, fifty six: cupcake wars & pool fun
Today we went to church as usual and then celebrated Reagan and Quincy's second birthday at Peter Piper Pizza. I'm not sure who had more fun - me or the boys. Let's just say, I'd be an awesome gambler. There's a ton of "games" where all you're doing is trying to win tickets, and well, they're FUN! Seriously, I may have played more than the boys. Ha! I had myself quite the time.
We came back and spent the afternoon in the pool again. You can see from the photo that the boys are making good use of it!
Also, from the other night, I have to tell you about our very own Sniff Cupcake Wars. It was the cutest thing ever. Silas is into all things game shows lately, including Cupcake Wars. Of course, while watching, how can you not want cupcakes - or at least something sweet? If I watched the Food Network, I am sure I would be overweight. It just makes me hungry. In any case, the boys mentioned wanting some cupcakes. I started to think and realized I had cupcake mix and icing in the cabinet. It wouldn't take that long to throw together some cupcakes, especially if I made the mini ones. They only take about 10 minutes to bake. As I pulled them out of the oven, Silas walked in wanting to help decorate. I found all of my sprinkles and then started looking in the cabinets. Suddenly, the idea hit me! Silas and I could make three "different" cupcakes and Eli and Daddy could be the judge {who, by the way - had NO idea what we were up to. They were upstairs by this point.}
I had just bought candy corn, so that was the first obvious choice. Eli loves chocolate and I knew I had some mini hershey bars. While digging around the pantry to find them, I spotted the marshmallows and of course, thought s'mores! Sprinkle a little graham cracker crumbs on top, add marshmallow and chocolate and voila! For our third cupcake, all I had left were blue sprinkles. What could I do? I spotted the fruit loops and knew that would be great for a pop of color. So, there you have your contenders - the candy corn, the s'mores, and the fruit loop cupcakes. Of course, all had the same cake batter and icing, but looked very different!
Silas rounded up our judges {who were very surprised, no doubt} and their comments and critique were so, so funny {mostly because, like I said, they were really all the same flavor}. We were all hysterically laughing. The big winner was the candy corn and the runner up was the fruit loop. I was shocked Eli wasn't into the s'mores, since the whole idea was for him. Oh well. In any case, my impromptu idea made for a fun time. This would be really fun to execute for real at some point or to do with friends. Who doesn't like to bake, and most importantly - who doesn't like cupcakes?
