my funny valentine.
Remember the other day how I said I was already working on the boy's Valentines? Done. I tell you - it's the nesting. Basically everything is done for Silas' birthday party {on February 19}, the boy's Valentines for both teachers and friends are done, my nursery is pretty much complete {in my head, that is} and it. feels. great. Regarding the nursery, I was less than thrilled about decorating another boy's room. My SIL recommended projectnursery.com to me and that got the wheels in my brain just a spinning. I decided to do sort of a "vintagey" room with owls. This required a couple special projects, of which are almost done. It all started with this mobile.
I realize this mobile is not owls, but you better believe it will be! What caught my attention was the a-dorable owl in the photo below it. This is made from an old lampshade -- easy enough, right? I found a shop on Etsy that makes owls out of felt and she worked with me, letting me choose which colors I wanted and all. As soon as I get those in the mail, I'll whip out my lampshade and bring this idea to fruition.
My amazing SIL, Rebekah, surprised me and made this for me!
Is this not THE cutest thing ever? love, love, LOVE it! I want to find an awesome branch and either hang this on the wall or over the window instead of curtains. Somehow I convinced her to make the owl in the photo above. I. can't. wait.
My ever so talented cousin-in-law, Aly, made this hoop art for me.
Ridiculously cute, right? It's not complete in this photo - but you get the idea!
So, as you can see, it's going to be adorable. I seriously cannot wait to put all of this together. I know I have 23 weeks to go, but hey - it never hurts to be prepared :) I also want to find an old book shelf and decoupage the backing with some cool wrapping paper or possibly some vintagey looking maps. You get what I mean? I have a mental picture in my head, but not an actual photo to show you. Sorry.
And back to what this original post was supposed to be about -- my Valentines! {I apologize. I easily can easily get distracted and go off on tangents.} So, let me preface this by saying - I was thinking one day about what would be cute for the boy's teachers and suddenly, mason jars popped into my head. I instantly knew I wanted the tiny ones and that I could fill them with conversations hearts. I was browsing the Dollar Spot and spotted this fabulous ribbon {pictured below} and it just all came together in my head. And can you believe this ribbon was one dollar! Can't beat that. I tell you - sometimes things just come to me and I'm always proud when it's my idea, versus an idea I stole. {Not that there's anything wrong with that and believe me, I steal ideas all the time and think Pinterest is the most fabulous thing ever.} So anyhow, I took a cute photo of both of the boys, gathered all my pieces together and got to it. Here's my quick step-by-step instructions :) Oh and another side note - I was bummed I didn't have my camera the day I did these. I could have gotten some awesome pictures - but my iPhone simply had to do.
1. Get mason jars. Print cute photos of the kids and cut them to the size of the top part of the jar.
2. Take off the lids. Hot glue cute $1 ribbon around the rim.
3. Fill mason jars with conversations hearts and screw on the lid! Easy, peasy!
4. Admire your work :) Front & back view shown.
I'll post the boy's Valentines to their friends later. I let each of them pick what they wanted {like last year - see blog post, here}. Eli choose Panda bears and Silas choose sharks. I made cute labels for them and will just stick them on and they're good to go!
