sick day.
We're unexpectedly at home today. I left work about half an hour early yesterday, as I didn't feel well all day. I had a horrible headache, was extremely achy and congested. I came home, took some Dayquil and slept for a couple hours on the couch while the boys crashed in front of the tv. Excellent parenting, I know, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do! I could tell as I lay in bed during the middle of the night that I would probably call and ask someone to take the boys to school in the morning. What I didn't expect was a sick little boy to keep me company.
Around 2:00 a.m. Silas entered my room.
"Umm, Mom? Can I lay next to you. But may I please go potty first?" {I love how he thinks he needs permission and his polite approach. So funny.}
"Of course you can, Si."
He then walked across the room to our restroom and I immediately knew {heard} it wasn't pretty. Poor guy had obviously caught a stomach bug. As a precaution, I got up, grabbed some spare blankets & sheets, a bowl and the thermometer. I told him I'd lay with him in his bed. I had horrific mental images of vomit on my brand new ivory bedding and our beautiful plush carpet I so eagerly picked out a couple months ago. There was no way I could chance any accidents in my bed. Of course, I didn't want his new bedding or carpet destroyed either, but at least if something did happen, it'd be easier to remove. I pulled his covers back, put down old bedding and covered the floor next to his bed with towels and a bowl.
Silas at this point was crying, terrified of throwing up. I felt bad, not wanting to scare him, but also remembered the two times he's had the stomach bug previously were disastrous.
"Mom, I don't want to be sick. I'm scared. I don't want to throw up. I think I'll pray. 'Dear God, please protect me. Heal me so I won't be sick. Help me to not be scared. In Jesus precious name, Amen.'"
Have I mentioned how much I love this kid? Anyway, right about then, Jeremiah started to kick. Silas has anxiously been waiting to feel his baby brother move. I grabbed his hand, put it on my tummy and told him to be really still. He felt at least 5 good kicks and was beaming. This totally perked him up and distracted him from the thought of throwing up. Such a sweet little moment.
So now, we're all just hanging out, relaxing. Today includes lots of blankets & pillows, medicine, movies and snuggles. I sure hate being sick, but parts of it aren't so bad :)
Here's hoping we're all feeling better tomorrow!
