24 Hours.
I just mentioned how pizza is my all-time favorite food. Regretfully, it may be a very long time before I can bear to even see a slice, much less eat it. But before we get to that part, the entire past 24 hours should be explained.
Yesterday began as a typical Saturday. Eli woke up in the best of moods, bright and early at 5:30 a.m. I went about my usual Saturday morning routine - working out, cleaning and getting ready for our family day.
Turns out, we ended up spending a fabulous afternoon at Soak City. It was a beautiful day and we knew we'd at least go to the pool, but ended up at Soak City. The boys are the perfect ages now and I have had in my head the past couple of weeks that I wanted to get passes this summer. Yesterday, we decided to go for it. Yeah, we're spontaneous like that.
Without question, the boys had a blast. Silas pretty much adored everything, but the wave pool captured Eli's heart. He was laughing hysterically, having the time of his life. I seriously couldn't stop laughing at him giggling, tickled at each wave that passed.
Needless to say, as we were leaving the park, both boys were begging for food. They were "starving". Not really wanting to wait for me to come home and cook, we decided pizza was the fastest and easiest route to go. Not to mention, this is high up on Eli's favorite food list as well. We don't eat it all that much, but he frequently asks for it and even pleaded the other morning, "Momma, can I have pizza? Pweeeease!? "Sorry, E but we do not have pizza. And besides, pizza is NOT for breakfast."
So you know how the sun and swimming not only wear you out, but make you h.u.n.g.r.y? Well, Eli was a little machine, downing 3 full size slices, leaving me to wonder if I should have called it quits at 2. I was in shock, as he ate more than I did. But, he hadn't really eaten much all day. Then again, we've always known the kid can eat.
As I was putting the boys to bed, Eli mentioned he was sick. He kept trying to go potty but couldn't. I mean, it would make sense if his stomach were a little upset. Both boys fell asleep and shortly after I heard a shrill from their room. Silas was having a night terror. Not surprising. This tends to happen on days where he over exerts himself and is exhausted. So I dealt with that for 10 minutes or so until he fell back asleep. Not his worst.
A bit later, I head another shrill scream. This time, it was E. It was completely dark but the second I opened the door, I knew. I grabbed him as quickly as possible, as he was already covered in and and laying in throw up. I darted to the bathroom. He continued, all over the floor, all over the rug, and all over himself. Poor guy. I felt awful because he has thrown up once or twice before, but not that he would remember since he was so young. Throwing up is terrifying - I'm assuming more so when you have no idea what is happening. Dusty drew a bath and helped him while I proceeded to clean the bed and the bathroom floor.
Once everything was clean, I thought to grab a sleeping bag and put him on the floor since that's the easiest thing to clean. Of course I laid next to him and comforted him as he fell back to sleep. Not 15 minutes later, he was at it again. Another bath, another clean up. More tears.
The next couple of times he figured out when it was going to happen and threw up in a bowl I had sitting next to him. He would say, "Momma, I have to spit again" and bury his head in the bowl. Purely pathetic. This became our little routine during the night. At some point he must have gotten up to find Dusty and threw up water and 7-up all over the living room floor. I tried to limit his intake, but he was just so thirsty. It's hard to refuse the poor little guy a drink after all that.
So -- after cleaning the bed, the pillow, the bathroom, the sleeping bag (twice) and the living room floor - giving him 3 full on baths and having little to no sleep, he eventually felt better. What a night. Oh, and I'm chalking it up to being a 24 hour bug (hopefully) because even after said pizza was obviously out of his system, he could not even retain water. Today he's definitely feeling better, just weak and not much of an appetite. I hate when my kids are sick and there's nothing you can do to take it away. Obviously it's not exactly how I would prefer to spend my Saturday night, but I can deal with that. That's just what we moms do.
So yeah, I could have done without last night but really, the only sad thing where I'm concerned is I'm not sure how long it'll be before I'm able to look at or even smell pizza again. Seriously - I may have nightmares of the above mentioned scenes. Gross. And, ironic. Should've kept my mouth shut about pizza being my favorite.
Sad, sad night - but fun, fun day.
