Fun Times with My Boys
I'm not quite sure why, but Silas has not wanted to go to school lately. He always has fun once he gets there, but the process of getting there is not fun! I practically drag him out of bed (at the latest moment possible so I have enough time to get him ready) to the tune of, "Mommy, I'm sooo tired. I don't have to go to school. I go a lot. I don't have to go everyday." Please keep in mind, he only goes for a few hours in the morning while I'm working. I typically will even stop by at some point in the morning and say hello and he's having a blast. School has been one of the best things for Silas. Before he began school, there were only a handful of people he would socialize with at all. He wouldn't go within a few feet of me - I am not kidding. He has made leaps and bound since then and has continued to amaze us at how he has come out of his little shell. Well, Friday was a special day. Eli always spends his mornings with Nanny at the school while I am working and Silas is in class. Nanny had told Silas, Maddy and Eli that they would all spend the day with her on Friday and have a special day. Silas was overjoyed at this news. He actually woke up on his own that day (around 6:30 a.m.) and was the happiest I've seen him wake up in awhile. Mel dropped Maddy off at my house, and I took the three of them to Nanny's on my way to work. Below is a photo of what those three looked like in my car. It was interesting to say the least, as they were a little too close for comfort. I do have a third seat but opted not to rearrange my entire car for a 20 minute car ride. I thought two was a handful - as they say, three is definitely a crowd. In any case, they had an absolute blast with Nanny and weren't quite ready to go when it was time for me to pick them up.
The boys and I ended up having a really fun afternoon and evening. Dusty was helping out with a video shoot, so it was just me and my boys. Of course we did our usual routine of going to the lake. But later that night, I took them to Sonic for milkshakes and we turned up the music and went for a drive. Silas kept telling me, "Mommy, look at the mountains! They are so beautiful! We are up so high." I noticed Eli being unusually quiet and did a quick glance over my shoulder to see if he was asleep. Hardly! He had milkshake dripping from his face, on his hands, clothes, carseat, etc. He had the cup in one hand, straw in the other, and was rotating between licking the straw and turning the cup upside down, drinking the shake from the hole on the lid. I looked at Silas, and we both just laughed. That is so Eli! We finally got home and Silas wanted to play in their tent. They have a tent that I set up occasionally and I had put it up that morning. We made some popcorn, turned on a movie and watched it from inside the tent. It was the perfect end to the day and we had fun!
This morning we got up and went for our usual Saturday morning run. I was so proud of myself because lately I've only been running 4 - it's like I have this mental block and don't want to go any further. I know physically I can do it, but just don't feel like it. Well today when we were about to start Dusty made me commit. I tried to say, "ohh, I'll let you know how far I want to go about a mile in." He told me that wasn't an option and to make up my mind! Running is so mental, that you really do have to gear yourself up so you can pace accordingly. Well, I decided to go for it and we ran the whole lake, which is right around 6 miles. It felt great and I'm so glad I made up my mind to do it.
Afterwards we decided it would be fun to go home, pack up our stuff and head to the beach. We went to Coronado and were pleasantly surprised to find that is wasn't all that busy. As we were walking down the beach, Silas randomly shouted out to me, "Happy Mother's Day!!" to which Eli shouted, "happy, happy!" I love them! Silas found "the perfect spot" on the beach, so he said, and we laid out our towels. Silas immediately wanted to go into the water, so Dusty took the boys and let me lay out for awhile. Seriously, it was the best! It is rare that I get to lay out at the beach, listening to the waves and soaking up the sun. Typically, we've both got our eyes on the kids. After a good while, Silas insisted upon needing more sunscreen so they walked back to our spot. Dusty and I decided we would switch, so I started coating them with another layer of sunscreen before going back to the water. I was putting sunscreen on Silas and noticed him licking his hands. Then, he put his hand in the sand and licked it again. Stunned, I laughed and asked what he was doing. Dusty told me that he was eating the sand!! Silas reached down again and I just died laughing! He is so crazy, that boy! So of course Silas thought this was hilarious and started showing me how he loved to eat it. So yeah, I am the proud mother of a kid that eats sand - oh and that also loves the salt water. Seriously. My child is nuts, but I love every ounce of him - quirks and all.
Tomorrow is Mother's Day, and I couldn't be more blessed. I have the two most amazing boys and it's a privilege being their mommy. I couldn't possibly imagine a world without them in it. As challenging as it can be at times, there is nothing more rewarding than the job I get to do everyday. It is an honor to be the mommy of Silas and Eli, and I thank God for placing them under my care. It's funny because you have no idea what to expect when you are pregnant or what that baby will be like. But you lay eyes on them for the first time and are taken away. I cherish every single moment with my sweet boys and am overwhelmed at the love that so naturally flows from my heart. Thank you, God, for Silas Daniel and Eli Jackson, my two blessings.
