Through the Eyes of a Child
There is nothing so wonderful as the innocence of a child. It's fascinating to me to see things through their eyes, where everything is bigger than life. Dusty and I drove around some neighborhoods with the boys the other night looking at Christmas lights. The amazement in their eyes and the excitement in their voices was so precious. I loved how Silas had to point out everything, "Momma, LOOK! Daddy, LOOK!" as if we didn't see it. He didn't want us to miss out on anything he was seeing, because it was A-mazing! He kept telling me, "wow, momma. It's so pretty." He got somewhat confused as to why there were not lights on every single house and wanted to know if they lost their lights.
I'm having a bit of a hard time explaining the concept of Christmas to him. I put up the boy's trees the other day and Silas was more than thrilled. I made him a very special Batman tree, and Eli got a "Cars" tree. He had been anticipating putting up his tree for awhile and so was beyond excited when the day came to finally put up and decorate his tree. Once it was up, he said, "momma, we have Christmas!". So not five minutes after the tree was up, he said he wanted Christmas presents. I tried to explain that it wasn't Christmas yet. He said, "yes it is!". It must be a little confusing because at school he's working on his Christmas play (listen to video clip below), I made 13 dozen Christmas cookies the other day for my cookie exchange, there are Christmas decorations everywhere, etc. So as simple as Christmas is to us, it's kind of difficult to explain to a three year old that we celebrate the Christmas season, but there is only one Christmas day. He doesn't get it. Now he keeps asking me if the tree is all done, because he wants to take the Batman toys off to play with them. Below are some pictures of our trees.

Not only is the innocence of a child an incredible thing, but I also love to hear what is going to come out of their mouths. It's great because they have no filter - they just say whatever they are thinking. Now, this isn't a quality I appreciate too much in adults, but it's different when it's a kid. In any case, this morning Silas was getting a bath and out of no where he said, "Mommy, I love you". There is nothing like your child telling you he loves you, especially when its spontaneous. So I told him, "Silas, I love you too". Then he yelled out, "well, I love you three!!" It doesn't get much better than that, at least I don't think! I mean seriously, how does that not melt your heart? Between his beautiful little face and his sweet, precious voice - he's pretty much got me wrapped around his little finger. I would do anything for that kid :)
Speaking of a sweet voice, you have to listen to Silas singing his song for the Christmas play. We were driving home from school the other day and I have a copy of his song, so decided to play it. Luckily, I thought to record him singing it on my phone. This could possibly be the sweetest thing I have ever heard in my life and am so glad I was able to capture this memory, because it is priceless. Enjoy!
