Rockets, Why's, and All Things Boy.
Today has been an incredibly busy day and I am literally just sitting down. Eli is laying on the floor with an airplane making airplane noises, and Silas is flying his airplane around the table and over the couch, also creating his own sound effects. Dusty had the idea to turn on The Rocketeer, as both our boys are obsessed with anything that flies. So for the time being they are fascinated and I'm positive Silas will tell me at some point tonight that he wants a rocket so he can fly too. He doesn't always quite understand why we can't just buy him an airplane, a rocket, or a spaceship - after all, there has to be a rocket store, right? We have definitely entered the "why" stage, where every statement is followed by, "why? why? why?". And seeing as how Eli repeats everything Silas says and does, we are now greeted with "Whhhhhhyyyyyy?" after everything we say to him too. We have resorted to, "Well why do you think?" in an attempt to divert this incredibly annoying question. At times I'll give up and try to ignore it, but the "why's" just become louder and louder, so I guess it's just a test of my sanity. Sometimes I'm amazed at Silas' curiosity and wonder how on earth he can even think some of the questions he asks. He is one smart kid. Eli is too, even though we sometimes call him "dummy". Yeah, I know, call us mean. There isn't a single thing about him that is dumb, but if you saw the huge, ear to ear grin that is constantly on his face and how insanely happy he tends to be, you'd get it. He's just oblivious and it's so sweet. So really, it's a term of endearment.
I had no idea what my life would be like with boys, but they're definitely fascinating. Having a girl would be way too easy because I'd have a ball dressing her up and doing girly things. But I wouldn't change things for a second. I'm not sure where my entertainment would come from were I not to have boys - or what I would do with my spare moments. I have nieces and when I am around them, I can't get over the night and day difference. My boys never sit and play quietly or enjoy going shopping. I spend my time playing referee, as my boys can't seem to keep their hands off each other. They like to "wrestle". They're also much louder, though not quite as dramatic. The older they get, the shorter their attention span becomes in the store and Silas will tell me before we go in, "Momma, we just need a little bit, not a lot of stuff." Sometimes they'll even play "swords" with the stuff in the shopping cart, meaning Silas will hand Eli something and they will pretend fight. Well, that is until I resort to taking everything and putting it under the cart. Yes, I spend my days playing trains, cars, and making them fly - hearing about "ickies", pretend burping and laughing, and throwing rocks in the lake. And guess what, I love it. My days are filled with lots of joy, plenty of laughter and amusement. It's the best. Dusty and I could not have lucked out with better boys - they are great! Okay, just so you know, I called it. Silas just said, "Hey, I got an idea. How about I can be the Rocketeer??" I'll let daddy explain why we can't buy a rocket.
So I thought I'd finish by giving the top five highlights of my day, so here goes.
5. Silas woke up in a bad mood, saying, "Mommy, but I am still so tired." He didn't want to get in the bath, get dressed or do anything really. I thought it was going to be a really long morning. He soon realized it was raining and if you know Silas, you know he loves the rain. He found his Thomas umbrella and got all excited proclaiming, "God made it rain today." It made his day that he got to take his very own little umbrella out in the rain. I love the little things that make us happy.
4. Eli had not seen his Nanny in three weeks due to Spring Break and our Texas trip. It was one of the cutest and sweetest "hellos" I have seen. They have such a sweet relationship and it makes my heart smile. He was the happiest kid in the world today.
3. I got a sweet text from Dusty and he also really liked my dinner I made. It's always nice to receive compliments, no matter how big or how small.
2. Silas decided he wanted to go swimming today after school. I told him that we couldn't because it was cold and raining. He then decided it'd be okay to go swimming in the bath and requested that I fill the bath tub really full so he could swim under the water. I put him in and he tried to "swim". He started screaming, "Mommy!!! I have water in my eyes. I have water in my nose!! I don't know how to do it! I need a towel." I told him that he had to close his eyes so the water wouldn't get in. He didn't understand why it kept happening. The funny part of the story is that he had a pair of sunglasses that he found and put on, thinking they were goggles. He kept trying and trying even after I told him it would keep happening and then proclaimed while crying, "Mommy, it just doesn't work. Sunglasses are not made for the bathtub, only for the pool!" It was one of those sad but sweet kind of moments. He was so frustrated and innocent in not understanding the problem. Maybe we'll have to go get him some goggles - and definitely swimming lessons.
1. My day was so productive and I love feeling like I accomplished everything I needed to. I worked, went for a run, ran some errands, came home and cleaned extensively and organized, made dinner and now actually have some time to relax without being needed by anyone (for the moment). I am truly blessed and am thankful for my family, my home, and so many things I don't even need. And, Silas has a pair of Dusty's shorts wrapped around his neck, an airplane with some rockets on his chest and is asking Dusty if he can fly like the Rocketeer. I love how predictable and wonderfully cute he is.
Here is the costume he just created.

He used Dusty's hat for a helmet and a pair of his shorts for his pack. This was 100% his doing.

From the back with a view of his rocket.

Proud of his creation.
Here's some photos we took last night at the lake. The boys had fun throwing rocks and I got a few sweet pics with my boys.

After just having the privilege of spending a week with my grandsons, I can confirm that Silas is definitely creative. He has always been a deep thinker. You could tell before he could talk! Eli is so loving and sweet. He has developed his vocal skills earlier than Si, and he melts my heart with his little voice. I can already see that God has gifted each one of them uniquely. It will be interesting to see how they use discover and use their gifts!
