Another Saturday, another family adventure.
Upon purchasing the Xterra, Dusty began researching places nearby to go off-roading. He read about a place called Sandstone Canyon. The photos he showed me were amazing and it sounded like a great family adventure. Not to mention the fact that the boys are obsessed with the "man car" and had yet to ride in it, more than around the block, that is.
We loaded up and were on our way. Our destination was about two hours away - just to get to the off-roading site. The canyon we were determined to see was about 12 miles off road. And, I do mean off road. Maybe I wasn't mentally prepared. I have never been off-roading. There were times that I thought to be borderline scary. Let's just say, I could've spent all day at the canyon. It was amazing. But the ride there was interesting. The boys loved exploring and thought it was awesome, but I think it may have been a little much for them with all the bumps. 12 miles is a long way off road, especially sometimes driving at a snail's pace!
Dusty said at one point, "I'm gonna wait to ask you what you think about this until we get to the canyon." A few miles in I wanted to scream, "Turn around! I don't want to go!!" But, then I kept thinking, "We drove 2 hours to get here... what's another 8 miles?" I mean, really. How can you go all that way and not travel the 8 miles? You have to.
I did keep thinking the further we went - it's also 12 miles back.
We both decided that we were SO glad we went. It was an amazing thing to see. But, both of us also determined we wouldn't do it again with the kids anytime soon.
But hey, it was an experience. An adventure. And we did have fun. I only wish the photos did justice to how cool it was! Check them out below.
