Eli's best day.

In a whisper, "Mom? Mom? Are you awake?"

"No, Eli... not yet."

Having Eli radar and immediately knowing this upset him, I rolled over to look at my sweet boy, disappointed. "Hey bud. Have you been awake for awhile?"

"Yes, mom. I just wanted to see you."

"I want to see you too. What do you think we should do today? If you could pick anything, what would you choose?"

"Hmmm... let. me. think. I would want to go to Taco Bell. And, and, and..."

"How about we just make a list? Go get some paper and a marker and we'll write a list of what you would like to do on your day off."

{five minutes later}

"What should we call the list?"

"We should call it... Eli's best day."

And that, is how our day turned into "Eli's best day."

First up on the list, Taco Bell. Mostly he wanted to go there to get a Baja Blast Mountain Dew Freeze. I'm really not sure when he had this first, because I can only remember taking him to Taco Bell once. Maybe a dad thing? Who knows, but he loves it and of any restaurant in the world to pick, this was his choice. It's cheap, that's a plus!

Then, he wanted to go to McDonald's to play, but not to eat. But maybe, perhaps, an ice cream would be okay. He also wanted to go to the Halloween store that I told him about the other day {my boys are obsessed with finding the perfect Halloween costume and always love the decorations in Target each year.} I knew they would love it, and boy was I right. We had fun trying on some costumes, looking at all the scary stuff and maybe even scaring each other with some scary masks. All in good fun, my friends! Finally, he wanted to go to the Dollar Tree to get some things he needed for a craft he's been wanting to make - some coffee filters and pipe cleaners. He wants to make some monarch butterflies that they did in church for a craft one day, but that he didn't have time to finish. It's been weeks, but he has not forgotten about said butterflies!

Those were his four wishes {which were must easier than I thought he would choose}{I didn't anticipate being able to do everything on his list}, and so, it became his day. We covered everything on the list and I am so glad we did this. What a fun way to make the day special for our Eli boy. I'm thankful for an extra day this weekend to spend as a family. Hurray for Labor Day!
