happy birthday, jeremiah steven.

Miraculous.  That's the only word to describe the experience of bringing a new life into the world.  Also, the infectious love that immediately overflows from your heart.  It'll never cease to amaze me.  You know that you will love this tiny, precious being - you just don't full grasp how much.  You cannot comprehend it until it happens.  And then it does and you instantly couldn't imagine your world without  this new love.

Jeremiah Steven entered the world Sunday morning, June 10 at 12:49 a.m.  He weighed in at 7 pounds, 8 ounces and measured 19 1/2 inches long.  He's a little doll.  So mellow and laid back, so sweet, so lovable.  My cup runneth over.

We checked into the hospital Saturday around 1:00 p.m. for my induction.  After the whole process of being set up in a room, an iv placed in my arm and answering a bazillion questions, we were ready to go.  My contractions were already about 5 minutes apart and I was 2 cm dilated before being given anything.  As soon as the pitocin began around 3:00 p.m. my contractions instantly became 2-3 minutes apart.  After only about an hour and a half, the midwife decided it was okay to break my water.  I was thrilled about this because with the other two boys, they were delivered within 2 hours of my water being broken.  We anticipated a fast delivery because his head was already way down, the contractions were regular and I was already dilating.

Not so much.  Then came the longest 10 hours of my life - an epidural free, pitocin induced {pitocin makes your contractions crazy strong and much more painful} labor.  The last several hours of labor, I thought I was literally going to die.  In fact, I was pretty convinced I was.  I couldn't think straight.  I was delirious.  I was exhausted - and barely felt like I had the strength to breathe anymore.  There's simply no way to put into words what labor feels like.  It's impossible.  This was by far my hardest labor {and not because it was natural -- I got an epidural at the very end with both Silas and Eli, but neither worked}.

BUT, come 12:49 a.m.... this was in my arms.

It's crazy how fast the pain goes away.
Oh, and by the way -- Dusty knew I wanted lots of pictures and video.  For whatever reason, he assured me several times during my moments of insanity not to worry - my hair still looked great for pics.  Ha!  He knows me well.  And, I wouldn't say "great", but definitely not bad for just enduring natural labor :)

So, meet Jeremiah.  We think he is pretty great.  If you want to see more -- you have to watch the video of his birthday, HERE.  Don't worry - more photos coming soon.  He's having his first photo shoot today!

  1. He is beautiful, Mel! Congrats to you and all of your boys :) Can't wait to see more pics!

I am so excited we are having a boy and that so many people I know will be able to give me advice on boys! I guess that makes Haven the little princess of the cousins, huh? :)
