Love and Rejection
Since I can remember, I have always dialogued back and forth with my little E.
Me - "You're MY Eli."
Eli - "Nooo, my Eli."
Me - "No, no, no. MY Eli." {Giggle, giggle, giggle}
You get the point.
So goes our conversation yesterday:
Me - "Hey, you're MY Eli."
Eli - "No, I Daddy's boy. I not Mommy's boy, I Daddy's. Daddy's Eli."
Me - "No, no, no - You're my Eli"
Eli - "No, I not. I Daddy's. You can have Silas."
Just cut right to the heart little mister. What's up with that? I mean, seriously? What is up with that???
I was telling Dusty about the conversation later in the day and of course he was eating it up!! Silas overheard. He informed me, "It's okay, Momma. I will always be your Silas. I am your boy."
Yes, that's my little heart throb right there. So of course, I had to test this out again today to see what would happen. In the car on the way home from school I questioned, "Hey, you're MY Eli, right?"
Eli - "No, I not your Eli. I Daddy's boy.
Silas - "Don't worry Mommy. I will always be your boy."
{Giant SIGH}
I sigh on two levels. #1 - Why is my sweet, little Eli love bug persisting he is Daddy's boy all of the sudden and #2 - How is my Silas so darn sweet?
To answer my own questions:
#1 - Perhaps, Daddy is doing some serious brain washing that I don't know about. Or, Eli is smart/cute enough to know he's being funny. After all, he does tell me all the time how cute he is. So, he obviously knows! But seriously, could my little oblivious boy be so clever as to know he's joking around?? Hmmmm. I sure hope so.
#2 - He simply cannot help it. He was born with one of the sweetest, most genuine loving natures I have ever encountered. He's not sucking up, he just means it. Case in point - the other night, he got out of bed to use the restroom. As he was walking back to his room, he stopped in the hallway, looked at me and stated, "Mommy, of all the mommy's in the world, you're the greatest." Yes, really.
