to Eli on your seventh birthday..
Oh Eli.
Just saying your name makes me smile. Honestly, I never could have imagined the life you would bring to our family. The soonest you could smile - you were smiling - and lighting up every room with your contagious energy. You have been a constant entertainment the past seven years. Often it seems like you aren't quite sure of your place, as our middle, but you are our sunshine. Our laughter. Our joy. Our happiness. You just have this way about you..
Soooo, seven. How did we get here so fast? I say it every year, but it's true every year - the time just flies. You entered our world on May 28, 2008 at 12:28 a.m. It's so appropriate, because you are such a little night owl. Like your dad, you don't need much sleep and seem to get a second wind at night, ready to take on the world. When you were born, I saw you for all of 2.4 seconds before you were whisked away to the NICU. It would be about 7 hours before I actually got to really see you for the first time. You had me at hello.
You were so lucky because not only did you have a mommy and daddy that loved you, but a big brother that absolutely adored you, instantaneously. You had a best friend from day one. The two of you still amaze me at your closeness -- how you'll always choose each other, how you rarely fight, how you enjoy spending every waking minute together if the day allows. You're also lucky because you get to be a big brother, and you are also adored by JJ. You are so endearing with him and it makes my heart so happy to see you get on his level and play with him.
You are one of the most selfless persons I know. If someone is hungry, you will give them your food. If you have the choice of where we should eat, you'll choose where you think everyone else wants to go. If you think I need help, you'll ask how you can help me. You'll always let people go before you. You see the needs of others before your own. That is a beautiful thing, my sweet boy. Your kind and generous heart blows me away.
Currently, your favorite food is corn. You have a love of all things sweet and a special endearment for taffy. Your favorite color is green. You've lost two teeth so far, with your top two basically ready to fall out. Youare obsessed with love Pokemon. You just completed first grade and your favorite subject is math. You're an excellent reader. You are a ninja and constantly work on your moves.. oh, and are working on your boxing moves as well. You like to practice running, because you want to be super fast. Just today you told me, "If you see me eating a lot, it's because I want to be big... so I can win at Red Rover." That's typical you! I love the things that come out of your mouth. You are funny, cute {sorry, but it's true}, and brilliant. You have a fascinating mind and I love to hear your thoughts.
Basically, we think you are great. You filled a hole in our hearts that we didn't know we had. You have brought us so much joy the past seven years. You just have the biggest heart imaginable, and thus, have made ours bigger too. I love how you love. I love how you care. I love how you are so perfectly Eli Jackson. You are one in a million bazillion. I could search the world over and never find another you -- and certainly not one with your lovable voice! You are the best! Always know that we love you more than anything in the whole wide world, ever. Our cup runneth over.
Happy 7th birthday, Eli Jackson.
All my love,
Mom
