It all started with a photo.

A photo of a homemade mobile that I could not resist.

For some reason, I saw it and thought - "owls". I began a long hunt for the perfect bedding. My issue with baby boy stuff is most of it is very cheeseballish. I hate it. As stated awhile back, I had a vision for a girl's room but lacked any motivation for another baby boy's room. I can do shabby chic and frilly, but images of all the cutesy, dumb boy themed nurseries haunted me. There were a few obstacles:

1.) the baby room still needed to also remain a guest room.

2.) I've done a lot of my house shabby chic already and the guest room was already decorated like so. Somehow, I needed to combine concepts without the room being too overly baby or too overly guest room.

3.) I wanted to keep pretty neutral tones in the room, but still bring in a little pop of color since it is for a baby.

The crib bedding I found is actually pretty bright. However, I only bought the quilt and purchased my crib sheet, bumper and bed skirt separately - all in neutral, solid colors to match the current decor of the room. My mom and I endlessly hunted for owl decorations that were more "vintagey" looking, than babyish. All in all, I'm very pleased with how it turned out. I wish photos did justice or I could get a photo with everything in it -- but I cannot. So, I had to just focus on all the little details for photos.

With all of that in mind, here is what I ended up with.

Let's start with the mobile I made. I took a lamp shade, ripped off the fabric, wrapped the entire frame in yarn {I think D thought I had lost it at this point} and then hung these adorable felt owls from it.

Here is the mobile above the crib.

The bed is probably my favorite part of the room. I bought an old window and used it as the headboard. I found this super cute pillow on Etsy to bring the owl theme to the bed. My amazing SIL, Rebekah, made this adorable owl name banner for Jeremiah. Take a cute branch, attach, hang and voila! An amazing centerpiece for above the bed.
