conversations.
I've done this post a few times but haven't in awhile. I need to get better at sitting down and typing some of our conversations out, because I want to remember these precious times forever. Maybe the things my kids say are only funny/special to me - but I must document, nonetheless! I know we moms can tend to have the "my kid is the greatest thing in the world" complex - but that's what makes being a mom so special. God blessed me with Silas, Eli and Jeremiah - and I have the privilege of bringing them up, encouraging them, loving them and being their biggest fan. And it's okay if I think they're the greatest kids that ever walked the face of the planet :)
Soooo... here's some of the latest "conversations" or rather, "one liners" that have had me laughing lately. Today, I'll just stick to Eli.
The boys have been working on their Mother's Day songs at school for our upcoming Mother's Tea. I already know Eli's song because I've heard it the past three years {the Bunnies class always sings it}. It's to the tune of "Jesus Loves Me" and the verse says the following:
The other night at dinner, Eli was not really eating his food. After numerous attempts of me telling him to eat, Silas decided to interject and inform him, "Eli, you are disobeying."
Of course, Eli asked, "What is disobeying?"
I explained. I also took the opportunity to throw in there that children are to obey their parents and how it makes God really sad when we don't obey.
Without missing a beat, he replied as he shrugged his shoulders, "Ohhh, Mom. But you understand me when I'm mad. That's what the soooong saaaays!"
I about died. I mean, he was totally justifying himself, but it was a good point. I guess the fact that he put two and two together amazed me. And if you know Eli with his cute little high pitched voice, ear to ear grin and irresistible personality - he's really hard not to love. He's so stinkin' funny and he knows it!
One night last week, Eli came tip toeing into our room way after bed time.
"Hey guys. I gotta tell you something. I think you should have me a surprise party!!! I don't want to know. Buuuut, I think we should have my favorite flavor. Chocolate. BUT, don't tell me. Annnd, I think we should have sharks. But, I don't want to know. Annnd, I think we should have it at Peter Piper Pizza, but I want it to be a surprise! Shhhh!! Okay, guys???!"
A few days later, Eli was discussing his "surprise" birthday cake with Silas. Silas questioned, "It's not going to be chocolate, is it??"
Eli quickly said, "Yessss, Si. Chocolate is my favorite flavor."
Silas, who doesn't not like chocolate and is an absolute cake lover {it's practically his favorite thing about birthdays} got really upset at the thought of this. "Eli, you can't have a cake at your party that your friends don't like. And I don't like chocolate."
Eli took one look at him, shrugged his shoulders and said matter of factly, "Well, I guess you can't come to my party then. It's chocolate."
My two opposites!
Eli has never liked to be called anything other than Eli. He doesn't like to be called funny, silly, sweetie - you get the idea. He's just Eli. I'm not sure why he has such a complex about it except I think he thinks people are calling him names. Even when people laugh at him because he's saying or doing something funny, he thinks people are laughing at him.
We were at school the other day walking around. He had a snack in a little cup. One of the teachers in the back {whom he does not know} leaned down to ask him, "What do you have there, sweetheart."
He looked up at her and said, "My name is Eli. It starts with an E-L-I. Eli." I know in just reading this, it sounds awful! It sounds SO rude! He sounds like a complete terror. But, he never comes across that way. In fact, most people that come in contact with him laugh because he's so cute in the way he says things.
Just today, we snuck off on a surprise mission to bring Daddy lunch for his birthday. Eli wanted to get him balloons and cupcakes so we stopped at Ralph's before picking up lunch.
We were waiting at the floral department behind an older lady who was purchasing some flowers. He walked right up to her {from behind}, tapped her on the arm and said, "Hi. My name's Eli. It's my Daddy's birthday and we are getting him balloons {as he showed her the package with said balloons}. He's going to be soooo surprised. Oh, and MY birthday is in May. I am going to be four years old. My brother, Silas is six. And, my mommy is having me a baby brother."
He's our friendly chatter box - our socialite. He loves to talk to people and loves everybody - everybody except "bad guys, robbers, monsters and strangers" he told me today.
When we were picking Dusty up at the airport the other day, we were walking through a temporary tunnel. They're doing a ton of construction at the San Diego Airport, expanding it. Eli was fascinated. He noticed a man in a hard hat and walked right over to him. He looked up, grinned ear to ear and waved. He said, "Hey. Did you build that building?, while pointing to all the construction. "You're a builder."
One thing's for sure - there's never a dull moment with Eli around. Most of the time he'll have you laughing or smiling. If you haven't fallen in love with him within 2 minutes, there's just something wrong!
On a totally different note - here's a couple of unrelated photos!
