A Rainy Day
I have always loved a rainy day, especially when I don't have to be out in it. With kids, rain can be - difficult. Not only do I have to keep myself from getting wet, but dress two little boys in raincoats, rain boots, umbrellas, etc. and attempt to get in and out of the car all in one piece and relatively dry. It's particularly frustrating when I have errands to run, because this just means more getting in and out of the car. I have had a couple horrifying experiences. On one occasion I needed to stop by Target and the rain had ceased for the time being and I needed milk. There's no surviving in my house without it. Of course I could run in and out before it started back up, right? Wrong. By the time I got my things and began checking out, it was pouring. I tried to wait it out, but after about 10 minutes of it not letting up, I figured we could make a run for it. Eli was in the front of the cart and I had a big, plastic tub in the back. Silas had no choice but to walk next to me, but don't you worry - he had his own umbrella. As we walked outside, there was a huge gush of wind. My umbrella popped inside out almost immediately, so I let go of Si's hand in attempt to fix it. As I did this, his umbrella followed suit and the wind was blowing so hard, I literally thought he was going to blow away. I'm not kidding - he could barely stand, as he was being pushed backwards. He let out the loudest, most terrifying scream you've ever heard. At this point, we were completely drenched, so I scooped him up and ran to the car as fast as I possibly could. All the while, Eli was screaming his head off because he was obviously getting drenched and was only about a year old. He had to have been terrified, not understanding what was going on. After all, rain isn't exactly the norm for San Diego. What were these huge drops of water falling out of the sky and onto my sweet baby?
Today was not that day. Today has been overcast, with small spurts of rain here and there, but mostly drizzle. It's perfect. I, of course, had some errands that had to be done. The boys thought the rain was "cool" and there wasn't much need for an umbrella. Normally, getting wet doesn't fare well with me but today I didn't care. There was no rush. I am just enjoying not having anywhere in particular to be. I had kind of a crazy morning and was a bit frustrated. I picked my boys up from school and the first thing Silas said was, "Eli, I missed you so much." They were in such good moods, it was kind of hard not to be in one myself. Sometimes it's a sunny day that makes people happy. Today, for me, it's a rainy day. The house is a bit dark, the boys are having fun playing and I have no plans for the rest of the day. Sounds good to me. The only thing that could make it better would be a nice pot of hot stew or soup. Anyone want to make me some?
When we were walking from the car to our condo today, I had my camera with me and snapped a couple photos of the boys being their cute little selves. It's not their fault they're so darn cute! Then, after two minutes my battery died. But, I still got a few smiles!
