And now, confession time. I have been watching Ally McBeal on Netflix. First, everything was all about Grey's Anatomy. I was consumed for months until I got caught up to current and am now anxiously awaiting the premiere of the upcoming season. After hopelessly searching around for awhile, not finding anything that remotely compares to Grey's, Dusty finally introduced me to Ally McBeal. He had no idea what he was doing!! I have fallen in love with the characters on Ally McBeal. I mean, Ally is just so quirky and cute - seriously, just lovable. And then...there's John. How could his character not win over your heart? From, "I'm troubled" to "pikipsee" to his Barry White persona - what's not to love? I was ready to throw my laptop across the room and vow to never watch it again when they first, made me hate Billy for his crazy neurotic behavior and then in ONE episode fill me in on the fact that he has a brain tumor, which totally explains his unlikeable personality change.
As if that wasn't bad enough, in ONE scene they kill him off. Grrrr! I was mad. And, I will admit -- I sobbed. Shameful, I know. Who knew I could be so emotionally attached to a tv character, but it was painful. It's a little hard talking about it even now. Okay, kidding - but I was upset. I had no hopes ever liking anything else about the show, but, in desperation pressed on.
Suddenly, they introduced Robert Downey, Jr's character. Let me say it again, Robert Downey, Jr. When I was 12 or so, my cousin, Rebekah, and I watched the movie, Only You. It was then that I secretly fell in love with Robert Downey, Jr. I'll be honest - I haven't seen a ton of his movies, but this movie...this character... Robert Downey, Jr.... (sigh) ... it got to me.
I can't say I've seen it since I was a teenager, so perhaps it was my age and the hopeless romantic dream of my future Prince Charming that won me over, but I can't lie - I thought he was pretty great. Eventually, I grew up, got married, had 2 boys and Iron Man came out. I realized all over again how wonderful and great he was... is.
This brings me back to season 4 of Ally McBeal, which I just had the pleasure of discovering. I hate to sound like an infatuated teenager, but... Robert Downey, Jr. Have you even seen his character on Ally McBeal?! He has now succeeded in making the entire show for me. There are not enough words. So, I'll leave it at that. Besides, I've really got to get to the next episode so I can drool a little more. OH gosh, am I really saying all this?! (sigh)
