jj's birthday celebrations
"Happy birthday to ME!" was what I kept hearing from a sweet little four year old yesterday.
It honestly could not have been a better day. Birthdays, of course, are always exciting... especially with kids. Although JJ definitely enjoyed and anticipated his birthday last year, I think this was the first year he really got to enjoy it. We have been counting down for what seems like forever! At this age and having no real concept of time, it's challenging when he is the last birthday in our family. It seems like we are constantly talking through with him, "mommy first, then Silas, then daddy, then Eli, and THEN it's YOUR birthday." I promise you the next big conversation is Christmas and that's a whole other story ;)
He woke up in the happiest of moods and kept telling everyone he came in contact with that it was his birthday! We went to school first to celebrate with his friends. I decided to go a little unconventional this year and not do a cake. He just really doesn't eat it and it seems silly to blow out the candles and not eat any of it. His absolute favorite treats are chocolate chip cookies and donuts. And not just any chocolate chip cookies, but chewy chips ahoy. I mean, this made things super simple for me, and I just had to get over the fact that he didn't need homemade cupcakes or a beautiful cake - what really mattered is that he was happy! So, I bought two packages of cookies and made a tower. When he saw it he giggled enthusiastically and said he had a "cookie kingdom ". I served it with the drink of all drinks - chocolate milk - and you'd have thought it was the greatest thing in the entire world. He was beaming. He told me, "Mom, this is the best birthday ever!"
After our quick celebration, we headed to Sea World Aquatica. What he really wanted to do for his birthday was go to Six Flags... and by Six Flags, he meant Hurricane Harbor. We have season passes this year and the two parks are side by side. He has been dying to go to the water park, but we haven't been when it was open yet. When he told us he wanted to go to Six Flags for his birthday, we quickly figured out he meant that he wanted to go down the water slides. Seeing that we have passes to Aquatica {which just opened} and he has yet to go - I kinda told him it was Six Flags! I mean, I know - a little white lie - but, it was what he wanted to do and he was elated. He had the best day. My SIL and four nieces met us there and we really just had a blast.
After about 4 hours at the park, we headed home for a nap and a shower. Thankfully he got a great nap and was happy and excited about his party. The other thing he wanted was to have his party at Grammy and Pappy's house. He was very specific with his requests this year. We had picked out his perfect decorations at Party City the day before and Grammy had the house ready to go. He wanted Paw Patrol decorations and a party game - pin the badge on Chase. For this party, we did a "donut cake", which he then referred to as his "donut kingdom". Again, a big hit! He was adorable at the party, being in the best mood ever and having the time of his life. I'm seriously not sure I've ever seen him so excited.
He was the cutest after opening all his gifts proclaiming, "I GOT EVERYTHING I EVER WANTED!!" He received a couple Paw Patrol toys, a Peppa Pig van {which he said he always wanted and that it was like our new van}, a shark fin {his prized possession}, some transforming Jurassic Park dinosaur toys, some awesome light up ninja turtle shoes, a shark swim suit, and I'm sure there's more. Before we left he insisted on packing everything up so he could take his party home. And, he did.
He was up pretty late, still excited from his big day. He told Dusty, "it's still my birthday!!" around 10:30 p.m. last night. I really cannot wrap my head around the fact that he is FOUR, but I'm embracing it nonetheless.
Okay, sweet boy! You are big and I love that you are four. I love every single ounce of you and am so happy you had the best day ever.

This morning I joked with him, "How are you getting so big? Don't you want to stay little?"
He replied, "Moooooooom, I don't want to stay little. I want to get bigger. Bemember? I am going to be a BIG brudder!!"
"I know, but won't you still be my baby?"
"Mooooooom! The baby will be your baby. I am your BIG boy!"
Okay, sweet boy! You are big and I love that you are four. I love every single ounce of you and am so happy you had the best day ever.

| Grammy always draws on the chalk board for everyone's birthday. She did a shark because the things he really, really wanted was his shark fin. Just in case you are wondering, he responds to Shark Boy. That's who he is... not JJ. |
